Multiple People Rescued in Oman Amid Severe Flooding

Several people have been rescued in Oman as heavy rains, caused by an ongoing tropical depression, have lashed the region. The downpour has led to widespread flooding and hazardous conditions, particularly in the South Al Sharqiyah Governorate.

In the city of Sur, a four-member family was among those rescued after becoming trapped by rising waters in separate incidents. Additionally, a driver was pulled to safety after floodwaters swept away his vehicle. Another rescue operation saw three people saved in Al Salimiya Wadi, thanks to the quick actions of Oman’s Search and Rescue Team.

All Rescued Individuals Safe

Thanks to the rapid response of emergency services, all rescued individuals are reported to be in good health. The hardest-hit areas, including South Al Sharqiyah, are experiencing heavy rainfall, and residents are being urged to exercise caution.

Flooding has impacted road access in many regions. The Royal Oman Police (ROP) confirmed that overflowing wadis have cut off traffic in several areas of Sur.

Tropical Depression to Persist

The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has warned that the tropical depression, which began affecting northern Oman earlier this week, will continue to bring heavy rain and strong winds. Mahmoud bin Rashid Al Khayari, Head of the Forecasting Department at the CAA, shared that rainfall amounts could range from 40 to 90 mm in North and South Al Sharqiyah and Muscat, with other areas such as Al Batinah and Ad Dakhiliyah expecting between 20 to 50 mm.

As the tropical depression continues, Wednesday will see reduced rainfall in some areas, with Dhofar and mountainous regions expected to experience lingering effects into Thursday. By Friday, conditions should stabilize across most of the country, although clouds could persist over the Al Hajar Mountains.

Coastal Warnings for High Waves

In addition to rainfall, the CAA has warned of rough sea conditions, with wave heights of up to 3 meters expected in the Arabian Sea. The Sea of Oman may see waves between 0.5 to 2.5 meters due to strong winds.

Public Safety Advisory

Authorities are urging residents to stay cautious, avoid crossing flooded valleys, and follow all safety guidelines as the weather system gradually weakens. With the tropical depression ongoing, the public should remain vigilant and prepared for changing conditions.
