Muscat Removed 66 Abandoned Vehicles in the First 3 Months of 2023

Muscat Municipality said that 66 abandoned vehicles have been removed from public places in the governorate in the first quarter of this year.

"The municipality towed away 66 vehicles abandoned in public places as these vehicles take up valuable parking spaces in residential and industrial areas in different wilayats of Muscat," the municipality said in a statement.

The abandoned vehicles included 42 ones in Bausher, followed by 17 in Seeb, 5 in Muttrah, and 2 in Amerat.

Owners of vehicles that have been left unattended for long periods of time will receive fines ranging from OR 200 to OR 1,000.

The owners of these cars will be fined OR 5 per day as a late fine if they don't turn up to claim the vehicle from the impounded site.

Prior to towing away the abandoned cars, the Municipality placed warning notice stickers on them but no action was taken for 14 days.

The crackdown on unattended vehicles has been done in an effort of improving the city's urban appearance, safety, and security. It also aims to reduce pollution.
