Oman Clinches Three Prestigious Health Awards from WHO

Oman celebrates a remarkable achievement as medical professionals from the Sultanate secure three esteemed health awards at the seventy-seventh meeting of the World Health Organization (WHO).

The accolades recognize exemplary contributions to research and healthcare across various medical disciplines, underscoring Oman’s commitment to community well-being.

In a historic feat, Oman emerges as the first country in the Eastern Mediterranean region to clinch three WHO awards simultaneously, showcasing its dedication to advancing healthcare on a global scale.

The awards ceremony, held today in Geneva during the WHO’s seventy-seventh meeting, witnessed the presence of Dr. Hilal Ali Al Sabti, Minister of Health, who commended the nation’s healthcare pioneers for their exceptional achievements.

Badr bin Saif Al Rawahi, Director of the Disease Control Department at the Ministry of Health, received the prestigious Dr. Lee Jong-wook Memorial Award for Public Health from the WHO, recognizing his significant contributions to public health initiatives.

Dr. Ahmed bin Hamad Al-Wahaibi, a Senior Consultant in Family and Community Medicine at the Ministry of Health, was honored with the esteemed “His Highness Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah Award” for his groundbreaking research in elderly healthcare and health promotion.

Meanwhile, Dr. Jamila bint Tayseer Al Abri, Director of the Department of Women and Children’s Health at the Ministry of Health, clinched the esteemed Ihsan Daghramji Award for Family Health, underscoring her outstanding dedication to family-centered healthcare.

The awards ceremony, attended by key dignitaries including Dr. Hilal bin Ali Al-Sabti, Minister of Health, and Dr. Ahmed bin Salem Al-Mandhari, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health for Health Planning and Organization, marks a significant milestone in Oman’s healthcare journey.
