Oman Declares 2026 as ‘Year of Non-Communicable Diseases’

Oman has officially designated 2026 as the Year of Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) to tackle the growing health burden posed by conditions such as diabetes, cancer, and heart disease. The decision was made during a meeting of the National Committee of Non-Communicable Diseases Prevention, chaired by H H Sayyida Dr. Muna bint Fahad al Said.

Comprehensive Plan for Public Health  

The committee unveiled a detailed strategy focusing on prevention, awareness, and policy reforms to address NCDs, which are among the leading causes of death in Oman and worldwide. Efforts include updating the National Plan for Non-Communicable Diseases, forming specialized work teams, and conducting a nationwide survey to assess the impact of these conditions.  

One of the key initiatives is the enhancement of the Omani Day for Physical Activity, designed to promote regular exercise and healthier lifestyles.

Focus on Prevention and Awareness  

Raising public awareness about NCDs and their risk factors is a cornerstone of the campaign. The committee also aims to foster stronger partnerships between the public and private sectors, support research, and promote preventive healthcare as a national priority.
