Oman's Tourism Sector Generates OMR1.9 Billion in Revenue

The tourism revenue in Oman reached OMR1.9 billion by the end of 2022, marking a 47.3 percent increase from the previous year when it was OMR1.3 billion.

According to data from the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI), Oman's tourism sector recorded a direct added value of OMR1.1 billion by the close of 2022, marking a 33 percent increase from OMR804.9 million in 2021. The tourism industry's contribution to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) amounted to 2.4 percent.

The Tourism Statistical Bulletin showed that local tourism in the Sultanate of Oman contributed 68 percent to tourism production, the equivalent of OMR1.3 billion in 2022.

In 2022, approximately 2.9 million inbound visitors were recorded, reflecting a 348 percent surge compared to the 2021 figure of 652,000.

In terms of quantity, the GCC states' visitors constituted the largest segment with 1.6 million, followed by Asian countries with 651,000 visitors and European countries with 360,000 visitors, while visitors from other Arab nationalities totaled 240,000.

Leisure and recreation ranked as the leading reason for inbound tourism, accounting for 43.5 percent of total visits, followed by trips to visit family and friends at 35.7 percent, and employment/business-related journeys at 10.5 percent.
