Oman’s Population Reaches 5.268 Million in Recent Statistics

Oman’s population grew by 2% in 2024, reaching 5,268,072, compared to 5,165,602 in 2023, according to the National Centre for Statistics and Information. Omani citizens made up 56.6% of the population (2,984,793), while expatriates accounted for 43.3% (2,283,279).

Muscat Leads Population Growth

Muscat Governorate recorded a 3% population increase, growing to 1,499,549 in 2024 from 1,455,680 in 2023. Expatriates formed the majority at 915,457, while Omani citizens totaled 584,092, showing a slight decline from 585,016 the previous year.

Growth Across Governorates

Other regions also showed varying population trends:

  • Buraimi: The highest growth rate at 4.1%, reaching 135,879 in 2024.
  • South Batinah: Increased by 4% to 567,455.
  • Dhofar: Grew by 1.6% to 529,625.
  • North Sharqiyah: Increased by 1.6% to 320,510.
  • North Batinah: Recorded a modest 0.9% rise to 925,802.
  • Dakhliyah: Saw a 0.6% increase to 558,373.

Population Decline in Musandam

In contrast, Musandam experienced a 2.9% decline, with its population dropping to 55,148 from 56,800 in 2023.

Expatriates Concentrated in Urban Centers

Muscat remains the top destination for expatriates, hosting 915,457 individuals. North Batinah and Dhofar followed with 328,194 and 290,782 expatriates, respectively.

Omanis in Key Regions

North Batinah recorded the highest number of Omani citizens at 597,608, followed by Muscat with 584,092 and Dakhliyah with 403,825.

The steady population growth highlights the concentration of expatriates in urban centers like Muscat and the mixed trends across other regions. These figures underline Oman’s continued demographic shifts and the role of expatriates in shaping its urban landscape.
