These Siblings Break Guinness World Record with Bottle Caps

Omani siblings Atharv and Ira Yadav, along with their family-led team, the Eco-Trio, have made their mark by breaking the Guinness World Record for the largest sentence made from plastic bottle caps.

On June 30, 2024, at Muscat Grand Mall, the duo crafted a quote using a staggering 70,080 bottle caps, forming Benjamin Franklin’s famous words: “Either write something worth reading or do something worth writing.”

This achievement, recently certified by Guinness World Records, was aimed at raising awareness about plastic waste and the need for recycling. The Eco-Trio’s project began in December 2023, with the team collecting 49 bags of caps from businesses like Bank Muscat and Oman Cricket Academy. The six-month effort culminated in a 15-hour assembly session, bringing together community members for a good cause.

The previous record, held by Japan’s SUMMIT with 60,533 caps, has now been surpassed. This milestone reflects Oman’s increasing commitment to sustainability, adding to the country’s growing list of environmental achievements. After setting the record, the bottle caps were recycled and repurposed into fibers, contributing to the circular economy.

The siblings expressed their gratitude for the overwhelming support from the community, hoping their initiative inspires others across Oman to adopt eco-friendly practices. Atharv and Ira's journey is a testament to the power of community action in combating environmental challenges and highlights the importance of recycling in our daily lives.
