The festival is designed to celebrate Omani heritage while promoting sustainable development, showcasing local culture, and supporting the economy through the involvement of entrepreneurs, small businesses, and artisans.
Highlighting Omani Culture and Traditions
The event aims to highlight the rich cultural and natural assets of the region, offering activities suitable for visitors of all ages. His Excellency Dr. Yahya bin Badr Al Maawali, Governor of South Al Sharqiyah, emphasized that this year’s event takes inspiration from the success of last year's edition, creating a more diverse and interactive experience. “This year’s edition reflects the unique culture of the region while promoting Omani products and supporting local businesses,” he said.
Supporting Local Businesses and Entrepreneurs
A key part of the festival is the “Taha’im Market,” where small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and productive families will have the chance to showcase their goods and crafts. His Excellency Mohammed bin Ali Akakak, Wali of Jaalan Bani Bu Hassan, pointed out that the event not only strengthens Oman's cultural identity but also contributes to the economic development of the region by providing a national platform for local businesses.
Exciting Activities for All Ages
The opening ceremony featured spectacular light, laser, and fireworks shows that set a magical tone for the event. Attendees were treated to a documentary film highlighting the success of last year’s festival and its impact on tourism and the local economy. A promotional video also showcased the region’s natural landmarks, including lush oases, ancient neighborhoods, beaches, and vast sands, inviting visitors to explore Jaalan Bani Bu Hassan.
This year’s festival features a variety of activities, including artistic performances, poetry evenings, and cultural exhibitions. Sports enthusiasts can look forward to traditional camel races, horse displays, and “Zveen” competitions. Additionally, there are educational activities that provide a modern take on Omani heritage, making the event both fun and informative.
The Road Ahead
The first edition of Winter Taha'im in 2024 attracted over 300,000 visitors, and the organizers are hoping for an even larger turnout this year. Along with cultural showcases, the festival offers food stalls and local cafes for an all-around experience, allowing visitors to enjoy the region’s cuisine while learning more about its traditions.
