The Oman Astronomical Society (OAS) has successfully observed Comet C/2023 A3, also known as Tsuchinshan-ATLAS. This observation is part of the OAS's ongoing efforts to promote interest in astronomy and track celestial events.

Background of the Comet

Comet C/2023 A3, dubbed as the “Comet of the Century,” was first identified on February 22, 2023, by the Asteroid Impact Alert System (ATLAS). Observers later confirmed that its orbit matched earlier data collected by the Chinese Purple Mountain Observatory (Tsuchinshan) in January 2023, leading to its dual name.

Best Viewing Times

According to OAS member Issam bin Ali al Salhi, the comet can be seen in the early morning sky with binoculars or telescopes until October 8. After this date, it will reappear on the western horizon after sunset starting October 10. 

What to Expect

Over the following days, the comet will rise higher in the sky, gradually becoming less visible as October comes to an end. Stargazers are encouraged to take advantage of these upcoming viewing opportunities.
