Duqm 1 Rocket Launch Delayed Due to Weather Conditions

The much-anticipated launch of Oman’s experimental scientific rocket, Duqm 1, has been postponed due to unfavorable weather conditions, the Ministry of Transport, Communications, and Information Technology (MTCIT) announced on Wednesday, December 4, 2024.

The decision came after precise scientific calculations deemed the current wind speeds unsuitable for the size and speed of the rocket during its atmospheric ascent. Safety and precision were prioritized, with the Ministry stating that launches of this nature demand ideal conditions to ensure success.

The launch, Oman’s first of its kind, is being coordinated with the National Space Services Company (NASCOM). While a new date has yet to be announced, the Ministry emphasized that there will be no direct media coverage of this inaugural experimental mission.

As a precaution, fishermen and seafarers are advised to avoid the designated coordinates until the rocket launch is completed. Oman’s space journey might face a slight delay, but the nation’s ambitions remain firmly set on the stars.
